Amazon Egypt is the ninth most-visited website in Egypt, with an estimated 57.03 million visits in October 2024 according to Semrush. This can be the answer if you're wondering how to make money online in Egypt: Sell your products on Amazon. Just a fraction of the leading ecommerce platform's traffic could translate to considerable sales.

How to Get Started Selling on Amazon

How do you start selling on Amazon? Start from the very beginning, says the popular song, and that's exactly how you begin. First, create a seller account. This is a simple matter of filling out the seller account registration form, providing pertinent information, and uploading the documents that prove your identity and your address.

The documents you must prepare to register a business account are:

  • National or resident ID
  • Business trade license
  • Business email address (or Amazon customer account if you're already an Amazon customer)
  • Active phone number

To register an individual seller account, you must have the following:

  • National or resident ID
  • Bank or credit card statement, electricity bill, or water bill that proves you live where you say you do
  • Business email address (or Amazon customer account if you're already an Amazon customer)
  • Active phone number

Some tips:

  • Make sure your ID is valid. It must have your full name, date of birth and signature, and it must not be expired (or must have no expiration date).
  • The name you'll use to register must match the name on your ID.
  • Your business trade license or proof of billing must indicate your name (which must match your name on your ID).
  • All documents must be issued in Egypt. They must be clear and readable.
  • All IDs and documents must not be screenshots.
  • Bank or credit card statements must have the bank name, bank logo, your name, and your address. They must not be password-protected and must be recent (not older than 180 days).
  • Use an active email address.
  • Use a phone number where Amazon can directly reach you.
  • You will need a credit card account where Amazon can charge you for service fees. While you may skip filling out your payment information when you set up an account, you will still eventually need it at a later time. You can't use a debit card.

After submitting your registration form with all the required attachments, wait for Amazon to review your submission. The verification period normally takes two to three business days.

Amazon will email you within three business days advising you of the status of your application. If it's a rejection, you will be told why, and you can log in to your seller account on Seller Central to address whatever needs fixing.

If (or once) everything's in order, your seller account will become active, and you can begin selling.

Business or Individual Seller Account Type?

If you have a registered business (i.e., one with a business trade license), you can opt for the business seller account. Otherwise, you can open an individual seller account. Just note that there are product categories open only to business sellers, so that's something worth considering.

Add Products

Once you have an active seller account, log in to your Seller Central to create your product listing. You must have the following information about every product:

  • Product ID. The product ID can be the product's global trade item number (GTIN), universal product code (UPC), international standard book number (ISBN), or European article number (EAN). If you don't have it, you can request a UPC (barcode number) for your product from GS1 or an exemption from the product code requirement.
  • SKU or stock-keeping unit. The SKU is internally generated; it's the product ID number you create to keep track of your inventory.
  • Offer details. Offer details include price and product condition as well as product quantities and shipping options.
  • Product details. Provide more information about the product, including its brand, name, and model or variant name (if any). Write the product description, indicate the product category, and provide product images. When you write your product name and description, incorporate relevant terms or keywords for search engine optimization. Use Google Keyword Planner, Ahrefs Keywords Explorer, or Semrush Keyword Magic Tool to find the search terms your prospective customers use to find a product like yours online.

Adding Products to Your Amazon Account

How do you add products to your Amazon account? Navigate to “Catalog” and click on “Add Products” to initiate the process for every product you're adding to your store.

Prepare Your Storefront

At this point, you have an active seller account and products available for people to buy, but you wouldn't open a brick-and-mortar store without preparing your store and displaying products on shelves, would you?

Your Amazon storefront is a page on Amazon dedicated to your ecommerce store. It's the place Amazon shoppers go to browse your store and find products they may want to buy.

To start, from Seller Central, navigate to “Stores>>Manage Stores” and then select “Create Store”. Once there:

  • Choose a storefront format. You can choose grid, marquee, or showcase.
  • Go to “Page Manager” then “Add a page.” You'll see you already have a home page. Add subpages, each with a page name, description and page template. Use the “Add a page” functionality to create a bestsellers page, a featured products page, or a specific product category page.
  • Lay out the content on your pages using the “Tile Manager.” Add images, text, and video to make your store pages more attractive and engaging.

Once you've finished adding and designing pages, submit your storefront for approval. Once approved, it will go live and become viewable by potential customers.
